Sanctum has been made as a direct response to my own physical and emotional experience of spending time sitting alone in the Solar Room.

As time passed, and I repetitively rolled, pleated, folded, stitched, weaved and constructed cushions and bowls, it came to me that the use of so many different materials was important to the work. But even more important was the way in which these materials were sorted and organised over and over again. A mediocre activity, like so many that we have to perform daily.

The cushions and bowl-like footstools are placed in the Solar Room to ease one’s burden. Each cushion and bowl mkes reference to a number of basic human needs. The bowls may hold answers or contradictions.
